Over the past two weeks, I’ve received dozens of messages about Pastor Timothy Forgy.
Forgy served as the associate pastor and financial director at Liberty Baptist Church in North Carolina. He also worked as a teacher, administrator, and middle school principal at the affiliated ministry, Liberty Christian School.
The messages I received all told a similar story: that Forgy had died by suicide on May 20th, 2025 – after being confronted about an allegation of sexual abuse involving a minor.
Given the weight of those claims – and the lack of a news article, police report, or any other public information – I reached out directly to Liberty Baptist’s leadership. Later that day, Pastor Scott Gray – who was also Forgy’s brother-in-law – personally responded and offered to speak with me by phone. We ended up talking for about 20 minutes.
When I asked what he could share about the situation, he responded:
"I’d start with this: just the heartache and the unbelievable hurt... I can only speak for our family here in North Carolina, but the hurt for the victim is just unbelievable. It should not happen. Abuse is just wrong and wicked."
Gray told me that on the morning of May 20th, he received a call with the devastating news that Tim Forgy had taken his own life. At that point, he had no knowledge of any allegations. It wasn’t until about an hour later that he learned an accusation had been made.
He immediately began reaching out to those who might know more. He found out quickly that the accusation was true – Pastor Timothy Forgy had sexually abused a teenage girl in Texas around 15 years ago.
Gray said he made the decision to bring everything into the open. He held meetings with his leadership team, sent out a mass email to the church and school communities, and addressed the congregation directly during a Wednesday night service just days later.
"We’ve just been very open and transparent with our people. You could call any of our members who attended that meeting and they’ll tell you—Pastor went down the timeline, and he let them ask anything they wanted."
The church also made the significant decision to cancel the entire 2025–2026 school year at Liberty Christian School—allowing time for healing, support, and institutional reflection. Gray explained,
“We canceled our school year because you've got staff people, students - you know - this is not the Tim they know. So everyone is just in shock.”
Gray told me he had known Forgy since high school, and never would have suspected anything, and emphasized that Forgy’s wife and other family also had no idea that anything like this had ever taken place.
“[His wife] is 100% innocent. She did not have a clue. She found out the day that Tim passed."
As for law enforcement, Gray confirmed that – while the abuse took place in Texas – local authorities in North Carolina have been made aware of everything on their end and were given access to any information the church had.
"We made them aware. We turned everything over. They know they can look at anything they want… because the main thing is, truth has to be on the table."
According to Gray, as of the time of our call, no victims have come forward from Liberty Baptist Church or Liberty Christian School.
He closed by saying,
“We’re being very transparent with our people. We’ve reached out—if there are any victims, please call us. We want to get you help. We’ve taken this to the proper authorities. That’s how we handle things here.”

I'm sorry not sorry. He was Baptist. White Christian Nationalists. Over 400 pastors in the Southern Baptist Convention are adjudicated pedophiles. Cry for the victims. These men produce porn with infants and children
Here's a crazy idea! Maybe if clergy and faith leaders stop sexually assaulting children…
…that would be good.
